It’s a really challenging time for many in our community and some days it feels hard to stay positive. If you are feeling alone, do reach out to us.

Together Co Social Prescribing supports people in Brighton and Hove to connect with activities and people in the community to make their lives better. This could be helping to find a local online social group, getting money advice or joining an onlinr exercise class. Even small steps can make a difference to staying positive. Here, the team share their tips on how to feel more connected, even when we can’t meet up in person.

  1. Join a local online group Lots of communities have their own local online groups, which are a great way to connect with people you don’t know – without the pressure of attending a particular event or scheme. Check out MeetUp Brighton to see what’s happening in our city. Or if you are over 50, The Hop 50 has a range of fabulous weekly online events.

  2. Try to spend a little time outside Getting outside (if you are able to, and feel safe to do so), even if it feels cold, is essential for wellbeing. It can promote feelings of connection not necessarily to others, but to the world, nature, and ourselves. Wrap up warm and head out, even a quick 20-minute walk can make a difference. If you’re shielding and need to stay home, allow fresh air into your living space each day, practise some deep breathing, and remember some simple stretches or sitting exercises can help keep you active and warm.

  3. Give volunteering a go. With 2021 bringing a third lockdown, charities across the country are under pressure to deliver help to those who need it most. As a result, lots of charities may need volunteers at the moment,  including Together Co. Volunteering as a phone befriender is a great way to connect with new people in a safe way. It can also improve the life of someone who might be feeling alone. Or, if you want to try something else,  check out other volunteer roles in Brighton here
