Together Co Social Prescribing (known as Impetus Community Navigation at the time) hosted the first Brighton and Hove conference to consider the role and future of social prescribing. This fully-booked event on 7th March 2019 welcomed over 150 people from the voluntary sector, primary care and NHS commissioning.
The event was timely, following the recent announcement by NHS England in the NHS Long Term Plan that it will fund 1,000 social prescribing workers initially, rising to 3,000, to ease the workload of GPs and improve people’s health and wellbeing. This has caused a buzz around social prescribing with people wishing to learn and explore what the new funding means to them. There were many discussions about how best to collaborate around population health between new primary care networks, social prescribing schemes and the essential community services that people are referred into for their ongoing support.
There were speakers from Together Co, Brighton and Hove Clinical Commissioning Group, NHS England, Community Works, Social Prescribing Network, Brighton Health and Wellbeing Centre, and The Bromley by Bow Centre in East London – one of the early pioneers of social prescribing.
