Together Co believes connection is a human right. For 25 years, we have been tackling loneliness across Brighton and Hove, helping people find belonging and community.
But loneliness remains one of the UK’s biggest public health challenges. In this city alone, more than 22,000 people report feeling lonely often or most of the time, and the impact damages both mental and physical health.
That is why our new strategy for 2025–2028 sets out a bold ambition: to champion social health, so that everyone has the connections they need to thrive.
Our vision and mission
Our strategy is built on four pillars designed to bring social health to life.
1. Volunteering as a Superpower
Volunteering doesn’t just help others, it transforms lives. By creating more accessible and inclusive roles, we will make it easier and more rewarding for people to give their time. Volunteers will be supported, celebrated, and recognised as the superheroes of social health.
2. Making Connections Accessible for All
Everyone deserves connection, but barriers still exist. We will embed trauma-informed and inclusive approaches across all our services so that no one is left behind. Whether through befriending, social prescribing, or community outreach, we will meet people where they are.
3. Organisation Fit for the Future
To lead this movement, Together Co must stay resilient. We will invest in people, systems, and ethical innovation, from better digital tools to diverse income streams, ensuring we can deliver lasting impact.
4. Champions of Social Health
We will lead the national conversation on social health, making it as valued as physical and mental health. Through campaigns, training, and thought leadership, we will inspire change locally and nationally, aiming to reach 100,000 people and 50 organisations by 2028.
“
We want Together Co to lead a movement that champions social health and the power of human connection to make a lasting impact in tackling loneliness.
Why social health matters
When people talk about health, they often think of physical fitness or mental wellbeing. But there is another area – social health – the relationships, support networks, and sense of belonging that help us to flourish.
Social health is what makes the difference between surviving and thriving. Having someone to call, a community to lean on, and the knowledge that we matter can be life-saving. We want social health to stand alongside physical and mental health as a national priority.
The numbers below reflect real lives transformed by Together Co.
- 99% of people we support report improved wellbeing
- 81% feel less isolated thanks to our services
- 70% of volunteers feel more connected to their community
April Baker, CEO of Together Co, said: “These achievements have given us the confidence to aim higher. In our 25th year, we are setting an ambition to do even more in the years ahead.
“We want Together Co to lead a movement that champions social health and the power of human connection to make a lasting impact in tackling loneliness.
“At its heart, this is a strategy about people and how we work, together, to ensure no one faces life alone.”
