In the run up to Loneliness Awareness Week in June we are asking you to do two things.
- Talk about loneliness to help break down stigma.
- Support our wonderful local business partners who are raising money for Together Co.
We are supporting Loneliness Awareness Week in 2022 by asking people to talk about loneliness to help challenge the stigma of feeling lonely. It’s an issue that everyone will experience at some point in their lives and is a huge challenge for many in our communities.
We have released our impact figures ahead of Loneliness Awareness Week to highlight this pressing issue.
Over the past year, we have provided more than 17,800 hours of support to people in Brighton and Hove experiencing loneliness and isolation.
By promoting the power of human connection, 538 volunteers gave a staggering amount of time to people in the city who had reached out for help or were referred through other organisations.
Befriending referrals came from people experiencing acute loneliness. We made 28,651 contacts with people through face-to-face visits and telephone calls, between April 2021 and March 2022.
Our Social Prescribing team also developed Coaching to Cope, helping to maintain connections between people and services during the pandemic.
“
It is widely known that the pandemic affected people unequally, with those with support structures doing much better than those without.
Isolation and loneliness are more widely recognised as the pressing public health issues that they are and that is why this Loneliness Awareness Week, we are asking you to do two things. Talk about loneliness to help break stigma and support our business partners who are raising money to help ensure we can continue to support local people who feel alone.

– Sofie Franzen, Together Co’s Chief Executive Officer

“Mary was somebody who just listened, she instilled a sense of hope and strength.”
