We are thrilled to announce that Together Co has been honoured with a prestigious national award for its work to improve social health to alleviate loneliness and isolation.

Selected as one of 10 winners of the 2024 GSK IMPACT Awards, we stood out among more than 500 charities across the UK.

Recognition of excellence

These awards, delivered in partnership with The King’s Fund, recognise excellence in the charity sector, particularly in improving health and wellbeing.

As a recipient, Together Co will receive £40,000 in unrestricted funding, and invaluable expert support and leadership development from The King’s Fund.

April Baker, Together Co CEO, said: “This accolade is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, volunteers, and partners who strive daily to connect and support our community.

“The judges’ commendations reinforce the importance of our varied services of social prescribing, befriending, and connector programmes highlighting our innovative approach to addressing the critical issue of loneliness and social isolation.

“This recognition not only celebrates our achievements but also propels us forward, inspiring us to continue our vital work and expand our impact.”

Beacon of hope

For more than 20 years, we have been working tirelessly within the community of Brighton and Hove, to combat loneliness and social isolation.

Our approach focuses on fostering social connections, recognising the profound impact of loneliness on people’s social, mental, and physical health.

Statistics show that 22,000 people living in Brighton and Hove often or always feel lonely, and research suggests that prolonged isolation carries health risks equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, with a significant increase in the risk of death among those who are lonely or socially isolated.

Community lifeline

More than 80% of the people we support live alone, with over half experiencing long-term physical or mental health issues.

We provide vital support to around 1,800 people annually, thanks to the commitment of 500 volunteers through our befriending, social prescribing and connector services.

Looking ahead

As recipients of the GSK IMPACT Award, we plan to expand our impact further.

With access to a tailored leadership development programme offered by The King’s Fund, we will be well-equipped to continue our vital work, making a meaningful difference in the community.
