Despite driving rain and an icy wind, we were delighted and humbled to welcome a huge amount of supporters to our Winter Reception in the gorgeous Fabrica last week. The scent of hot spiced drinks, the conversations and the live choir were a welcome reprieve from the challenging conditions outside.

Our Winter Reception is a chance for us to celebrate our collective achievements over the year, and thank all our fantastic supporters for what they have made possible.

This year we heard from Linda, one of our members, talking about the impact of loneliness and the difference that her befriender, Becky, makes to her quality of life. We also heard from Richard, one of our Social Prescribing Volunteers, who read the real life story of one of our clients who, with support from our social prescribing service, has finally found safe accommodation after living on the streets.

It was a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from our volunteers and the people they support about the huge difference our services can make.

The night was rounded off with an incredibly uplifting performance from our charity partners Soul of the City Choir. Thank you!

We’d also love to thank our wonderful partners edoMidas for sponsoring the event and to Cafe Rust, Bird and Blend Tea, Higgidy Kitchen and Kate Henry for the amazing gifts of food and drink. And a huge thanks to all our incredible supporters who gifted fabulous prizes for our Silent Auction, which raised over £1,500 for the charity. This could pay for 15 local befriending groups for isolated people across the city who find it hard to leave the house, which makes an incredible impact for a small charity like ours.

This year, we have seen a huge surge in demand for our services from people experiencing isolation and loneliness, and we’ve also seen a huge rise in people who want to volunteer. Together we can make a huge difference.

Thank you to everyone who supported us in 2019.
